God’s Anger After Abortion

 God's Anger

You may be surprised that God’s anger is outlined all through Scriptures. For example – He was angry at the Egyptians for enslaving the Israelites (Psalms 78:49-50). God was also angry at the wickedness of people in Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:1-20).

God does allow anger when it’s directed against evil and does not lead us to sin. Much of the anger related to your abortion undoubtedly qualifies. But that anger can become dangerous when a bitter root develops in your heart. At that point, holding bitterness and anger against another is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies! It’s important to understand the truth about God’s anger, particularly as it relates to abortion.

“My pastor said my abortion is an unforgivable sin because I blasphemed the Holy Spirit in rejecting His gift of life,” a post-abortive woman outlined in an e-mail message. “There is no hope for me to ever enter Heaven, Sydna, right? I’ve committed an unforgivable sin!”

The wounded woman’s pastor, like so many others, used Mark 3:28-30 to make his point – Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemes they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation…

In the depths of self-loathing that often result after abortion, many believe ungodly messages that twist one sin into the unforgivable category. Sadly, nothing could be further from the truth.

God knows the brutal hearts that persecute others with false messages about His nature. This category of sinner is an enemy of everything that is Godly. They actively work to destroy the good in favor of evil. On the other side, the repentant are seeking God and working to sin no more. Therein lies the difference. If you are reading this module, you are seeking God’s help.

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is rejection of the Spirit Who calls us to trust in Jesus Christ. It is a failure to believe in Him. As John 3:18 says, …whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

God already knows about your abortion. You can’t surprise Him with that truth. He not only knows what you did, He was there by your side when it happened.

When your child was conceived, God was there because He is the creator of all life. When you took that positive pregnancy test, God was there. When you couldn’t sleep, or maybe panicked and planned, He was there. When you lost your baby, He welcomed your child home to heaven.

Maybe you didn’t hear His voice then? Maybe your fears drowned it out? Or perhaps you closed your ears and didn’t listen as He put events, people or signs in your way to discourage this choice.

God knew you’d choose abortion and He stayed with you. His love has continued to the point where you have found this healing site and are getting to know Him all over again.

God wants to forgive us. He sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to take on our sin burden so that we could receive His full forgiveness (John 3:16). God hears our intimate thoughts and knows everything we are thinking and feeling in our hearts. He sees our struggling, tender side reaching out to Him for mercy. He is wrapping His arms around you now to remind you He’s always been with you.

All the anger of God against sin (abortion sin included) was poured out on Jesus as He hung on the cross. He absorbed our deserved punishment. That is what it means to seek His mercy and believe in His substitute-punishment for us. He did it willingly out of love.

God can redeem this sin and change your life – just like He did for me. The harder issue may be addressing the anger you hold against the younger version of yourself that made that choice.  As outlined in Romans 8:1-2 NIV – Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit, who gives life, has set you free from the law of sin and death.

In order for the Romans 8:1-2 verse (above) to work in our lives, we have to believe it! You may never have considered giving this sin over to God. Give it to Him now. He will forgive.

In Luke 7, when Jesus was being “anointed by a sinful woman,” He made an obvious point to a judgmental Pharisee looking upon her with disdain. In Luke 7:47 Jesus says – Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – for she loved much.  But he who has been forgiven little loves little.

Because post-abortive people have been forgiven a great debt of sin, they have the ability to love others at a deeper level. Even if God never calls you to share this secret, His mercy will change you so His loving light of hope can shine through your heart. He can use you to inspire others to accept His love and live a greater life.

Are you having trouble realizing the love of God and His forgiveness since you choose abortion? Understand there is NO sin that God cannot forgive. Ask Him, from the depths of your heart, for His help. Our team is always here to help as well.
